see

Club Scannella: Nestled like a precious gem in the azure waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Club Scannella beckons with its alluring blend of natural splendour and timeless charm. A beach club with warm-water pools built into the rocks, Scannella is something straight from a Slim Aarons photo with its iconic blue parasols, it doesn’t get much more authentic than this - a must-visit if you’re on the island.

Giardino Eden: A beach club and restaurant found along the island's bay of Cartaromana, offering a luxurious oasis amidst lush Mediterranean gardens. With a platform deck set in the sea, lie back and relax on the elegant sun loungers surrounded by panoramic views of the Aragonese Castle. Giardino Eden is an idyllic retreat for pure relaxation and indulgence - a really cool spot.

Aragonese Castle: Immerse yourself in the island's rich history at the Aragonese Castle, a majestic medieval fortress perched on a rocky islet connected by a bridge with the ancient village of Ischia Ponte. You may recognise this gem from the famous 1999 film ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’ and trust us when we say, you will feel like you are in a movie.

Baia di Sorgeto: Baia di Sorgeto located in Forio, is a natural wonder where warm thermal waters blend seamlessly with the cool Mediterranean Sea, creating a unique bathing experience amidst rugged cliffs and serene coastal vistas. Close your eyes, soak up the sun and relax in the sea as the rhythmic ebb and flow of the waves, coupled with the gentle embrace of the water, soothes the mind, body and soul. It's a real treat for the senses.

Thermals: Ischia is renowned for its therapeutic thermal waters, revered since ancient times for its healing properties, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in rejuvenating baths and spas scattered across the island's stunning landscape. Indulge in the island's renowned thermal baths, such as the Poseidon Gardens, where you can relax in natural pools surrounded by beautiful gardens.

Beaches: The beaches in Ischia boast crystal-clear waters, golden sands and scenic coastal backdrops, providing the perfect setting for sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying the island's serene atmosphere and authentic Italian charm. One of our favourites is the stunning Baia di San Montano, a hidden bay framed by rugged cliffs and nestled on the island’s northern coast, known for its thermal hot springs that flow into the sea. It’s mainly used by the locals which means it’s often quiet and spacious and just pure bliss.

Boat trips: We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again but the best way to see an island is by boat. There’s nothing better than experiencing the allure of the island from a whole new perspective. There are so many charters offering boat trip experiences where you can see the beauty of Ischia in all its glory. Most of which will be able to show you parts of the island that would otherwise go undiscovered such as secret beaches and hidden coves. They are also really good at recommending local restaurants and hotspots for you to visit.

Mount Epomeo: Hike to the highest point on the island, offering breathtaking, panoramic views of the azure sea and surrounding landscapes and marvel at the picturesque beauty of Ischia. Local hiking guides offering ‘hike and wine’ tours are available if this is your thing, we recommend Marianna Polverino (Ischia Hiking Tours) who will show you the beauty of the island.

Day trips: We loved having the freedom and opportunity to explore different places whilst having Ischia as our base. With Capri only a stone’s throw away and under an hour on the ferry, you can spend the day soaking up Ischia’s tiny sister island and seeing all Capri has to offer (you can read our Capri guide here). Also nearby is Naples for you to live out your Eat, Pray, Love moment which you have to fly into to get to Ischia or get the ferry over to Procida, a picturesque island known for its pastel-coloured houses, picturesque harbours and authentic Mediterranean ambience.

soiree

Ischia has it all, whether you're seeking relaxation, adventure or a night-time soiree on the beach. A luxury oasis by day but once the sun descends over the turquoise waters and night falls, the island comes alive with many experiences to indulge in.

Rena Beach Club: Rena brings the party. A beach restaurant and cocktail bar on the famous Maronti beach where you can dance the night away to the beats of live music and resident DJs playing tunes under the twinkling lights until the early hours. This one is a popular spot and one of our favourites on the island.

Chalet Nonna Carmela: Speaking of beach parties, this restaurant on the beach of Chiaia in Forio holds events throughout the year such as Follia with different DJs and even a special appearance from the Italiano disco king himself, Pino D’Angio (check out the Inside Issue ‘Ischia’ playlist below) for a little preview.

Bar La Torre: Sitting pretty on the terrace of the Mezzatorre hotel, the Bar La Torre is the place to see and be seen in Ischia and a destination in its own right. Order a Mezzatorre Spritz, watch the sunset over the Gulf of Naples, listen to the soft piano music and embrace the low-key, chill vibes around.

Ristorante La Torre: We couldn’t include Bar La Torre without mentioning Mezzatorre’s restaurant offering a menu that uses only the best seasonal produce and the freshest ingredients from land and sea giving diners a real taste of Ischia.

Ristorante Indaco at Hotel Regina Isabella: Hotel Regina Isabella is a little piece of heaven. With original features from the 1950s and guests such as Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, the resort brings a touch of glamour to the island. It has three restaurant and bar options to choose from with views overlooking the sea or gardens. Ristorante Indaco is a Michelin Star restaurant serving mainly fresh seafood. Everything is a work of art but the setting seals the deal, overlooking a small bay over the village of Lacco Ameno with nothing but the sea and the stars whilst you dine.

Albergo il Monastero: Il Monastero is located in the iconic Aragonese Castle overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The hotel’s on-site restaurant has only 10 tables meaning you can immerse yourself in the peace and dine in tranquillity surrounded by breathtaking views watching the sunset over the village of Ischia Ponte - we recommend booking this one in advance as it’s reservation only.
